Crummy

This book arrived for me a couple of weeks ago, and I've been giving it a spin and making some crumb blocks. I still have a random box full of odd-size bits that I can't quite bring myself to throw away, and they were perfect for this.

I love Victoria's scrappy quilts, and the energy that this crumb piecing seems to give. But I did not enjoy making these blocks. It seemed to take forever, and it's awkward. I am the opposite of a perfectionist, so it wasn't the angles that were making me crazy, but something else. Anyway, I like the end result so I will have another go and see if it goes any better. Hopefully there won't be as much swearing and foot-stomping this time.

Here are the blocks. Hardly worth the bother really. The heat might not be helping, we're in the thirties all week this week with over 35 (my personal melt point) for the weekend.

  1. i know what you mean about crumb blocks. sometimes you just have to be in the right mood for them. i'm bundled under three quilts in long johns and a flannel nightgown trying to knock back this cold or flu or whatever. thanks for the kind comments. i went home from work early and went straight to bed. my brain is too fuzzy to convert the temp right now, but this morning it was 12 degrees farenheit here.

  2. I too have this book - haven't tried the technique yet though. I do think it's one of those things you have to be in the right frame of mind for, and no heat doesn't help!

I'm actually doing a class with Victoria in Sydney in March - very excited!

I love your blocks. Look forward to seeing more (when we get a cold spell, perhaps)

  3. Happy New Year, Lynley. I do hope that you continue happy and healthy. And quilting. And blogging.

35 sounds too hot. Argh. Come to mild, damp Scotland. We have waves. Though I doubt if you'd want to splash in them...
